Jessica Carmen is a Cuban-American singer and actress. She began her musical studies at the piano at the age of 8 and began studying classical voice at 15. During her high school years, she participated in various programs, recitals and choirs. Most memorable experiences include singing on PBS with the Virginia Chorale, and taking intensive voice, theory and piano lessons through the Ensign Darling Fellowship at the Bushnell Center and former Connecticut Opera. She attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston for two years and transferred to the University of Kentucky where she recieved her BA in Music in 2011. Jessica has had the prevelidge of working with various excellent voice teachers including Rosa Vento, Cynthia Lawrence, Heidi Skok and Patricia Craig. She has participated in summer festivals which include Intermezzo Young Artist Program and RESONANZ and has sung in a variety of masterclasses with top artists in the field. Jessica disovered her musical theater voice while performing the role of Mezzo/Jessica in Bucchino's "It's Only Life." In 2010, she performed in her first straight play, as Mary Hatch in "It's A Wonderful Life" at Woodford Theater. She was honored with nomination for "Favorite Actress of the Year" for her performance. Since then, Jessica has continued to explore other performing opporunities outside of opera. She is eager to learn about multiple genres and is particularly interested in musical theater, theater and on camera work. Also a piano player, Jessica has been dabbling with song writing. Although she finds Mozart far more deserving of the term, "composer," she hopes to take classes to hone in on her skills, and maybe one day even release a song or two.
